Architect SUTD Advance Architecture Lab
The Future of Us Pavilion was created for Singapore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, forming a dramatic public gathering space at the entrance to Gardens by the Bay. Visitors walk beneath a shimmering lattice of perforated aluminium panels supported by an expressive steel gridshell.
Passage Projects led the structural design of the free-form steel structure, delivering the project from concept to completion in just five months. The structure spans approximately 50 metres and rises to 16 metres in height, combining vertical steel arches with straight primary purlins — the ingenuity of this system simplified the fabrication of an otherwise complex geometry.
The entire structure was rationalised using standard I-beams, bolted connections, and repeated component types to streamline manufacturing and site assembly. This strategy enabled fast-track delivery without compromising the architectural vision.
The project received the Singapore President’s Design Award — one of the nation’s highest honour for design — in recognition of its technical achievement.
