At the heart of Pavilion Bukit Jalil, the Mega Canopy spans a 100-metre column-free piazza — a dramatic public space framed by an iconic freeform steel roof. The canopy incorporates one of the longest ETFE cushion systems in the world.
Passage Projects led the structural design, developing a lightweight system of vertical steel arches braced by diamond-shaped longitudinal members. The geometry was optimised for buildability and service integration, with all cables and rainwater systems fully concealed within the structure.
The canopy is supported by tree-like steel columns with carefully engineered nodes — blending expressive form with structural clarity. The project exemplifies how geometry, fabrication ingenuity, and architectural ambition can come together to create a singular spatial experience.
